Some of you might have heard of the story of Issy, an autistic girl who was nearly murdered by her mother and is still fighting for her life in the hospital.
I have to admit when I first read this story last night in my 3 am haze I only thought of it as “just another news story”.
After all, people get murdered all the time.
But then again, this is a child we are talking about and one with disabilities at that.
Disabilities in particular that are very important to me.
Then I came across the public outcry of the autistic community, and it began to sink in. This could have happened to one of my friends.
The worst part is, they don’t even talk about Issy’s side of the story. Instead, they glorify her mother as just overtired without resources.
This is not ok.
Take a look for yourself how this is affecting people we all love. People who deserve to have a life like anyone else.
Also, if you think you’re getting to that breaking point, please call a hotline. There are people who want to help.
