The Monk and I lay on the living room floor, staring at each other.
“Is this what Life is?” I ask. “People laying on the living room floor, talking to each other?”
“Yes,” he replied. “In all of time, this is what life is. Even if we don’t use refrigerators any more, people will always be the most interesting things to people.
I mean, think about it. What has changed since 10,000 years ago? There were still people sitting around a kitchen table talking about pseudo-philosophical things that were tangentially relevant to their lives. The only difference now is we have refrigerators.
Our lives are timeless.”
“I think that’s why natural toys speak to us so much… Because they’re timeless.”
He rolled his eyes and sat up.
